72. Song Nos. 768 and 769: “Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp (Let it Roll),” George Harrison
All Things Must Pass, 1970; Let it Roll – Songs of George Harrison, 2009
I mean obviously because I know how the alphabet works, I knew this song was coming once the handful of “Ballad” songs started. But as soon as those first notes played, I couldn’t stop myself from blurting out “Ooooohhhh, I LOVE this song!” to an empty room.
And I think it’s important to recognize and celebrate how just hearing a song you love with your whole heart can lift your mood in an instant. There are a lot of things to worry about all the time (hello from hyper-local journalism during the pre-election season, even if my beats’ candidates and campaign managers are freaking delightful humans doing their best to make an inherently wild time way more manageable) and these escape-hatch songs become such necessary emotional havens when you just need to surround yourself with the good stuff, especially when it’s a chance to indulge in George Harrison’s many gifts to earballs everywhere.
